Philosophy

A Humanistic Approach
to Architecture

Richard Hunter Architect Inc. believes that the best architecture begins with people. Every space we design is shaped by the lives that will unfold within it — how people gather, work, learn, and find comfort.

Evolved from Owen Hunter Architects Inc., our practice carries forward decades of design tradition while embracing the possibilities of contemporary architecture. We approach every project as a collaborative partnership, listening deeply to understand the aspirations, constraints, and context that make each commission unique.

From the initial programming phase through to completed interiors, we provide comprehensive architectural services that honour the relationship between built form, landscape, and human experience. Our work spans residential, commercial, governmental, and institutional sectors — united by a shared commitment to designing places that genuinely serve the people who inhabit them.

Our Process

Collaborative by Design

01

Listen

Every project begins with understanding — your vision, your constraints, your aspirations. We listen before we draw.

02

Explore

Through programming and feasibility studies, we define the possibilities — aligning scope, budget, and site realities.

03

Design

Form emerges from function. We develop solutions that are beautiful, practical, and deeply considered — from massing to material.

04

Realize

Complete documentation and contract administration ensure the design intent carries through construction to finished space.

Services

Complete Architectural Services

From initial concept through completed interiors, we offer the full spectrum of architectural services — ensuring continuity of vision at every stage.

Architecture

Comprehensive architectural design for new construction and renovation projects. We guide each project from schematic design through construction documents with meticulous attention to form, function, and context.

  • Schematic & Design Development
  • Construction Documents
  • Contract Administration

Planning & Programming

Strategic planning and programming services that lay the groundwork for successful projects. We define spatial needs, adjacencies, and priorities before design begins — saving time, money, and ensuring alignment.

  • Needs Assessment & Programming
  • Master Planning
  • Space Utilization Studies

Feasibility Studies

Rigorous analysis that helps clients make informed decisions before committing to a project. We evaluate site conditions, zoning constraints, construction costs, and development potential to determine what's possible and practical.

  • Site & Zoning Analysis
  • Cost & Budget Assessment
  • Development Options

Interior Design

Interior design as an extension of architecture — not an afterthought. We develop interior environments that complement and complete the architectural vision, selecting materials, finishes, and furnishings with the same rigour applied to the building itself.

  • Material & Finish Selection
  • Furniture & Fixture Specification
